- Can you tell me how wide the shelves are. How wide is the 55 inch one minus the shelve area? Would two children be able to site side by side and have enough room to work on the 55 inch one?

With the shelving area subtracted, the remaining workspace on the 55-inch desk is 43 inches wide. As for your question about the workspace for two children, it largely depends on the age and size of the children, as well as the work they'll be doing. However, 43 inches is a fairly generous space and should comfortably accommodate two younger children for activities like reading, writing, or drawing.
