We know you have questions, so we have answers. A lot of them. Because kids’ furniture isn’t just something we do, it’s our passion.
What are Max & Lily® beds made from?
Max & Lily® beds are made from solid, knot-free New Zealand pine wood. In other words, a strong, sturdy bed that is safe for your little ones!
What is the difference between New Zealand pine and other pine woods?
New Zealand pine is a slow growing species that is denser than other variations of pine wood. This means that the wood we use on our beds is stronger and more durable than other pine wood beds.
What does low VOC mean?
Low VOC means there are no harmful chemicals included in our paints and finishes. Safety is our number one concern at Max & Lily®, so we test our beds yearly to ensure that your kid sleeps safe.
What types of glues and finishes are used?
We only use water-based glues on our furniture and all our finishes comply with current children’s furniture standards.
What is the weight capacity per bed?
Each sleeping surface is tested to hold up to 400 pounds of resting weight. So go ahead, snuggle up to read a book with your kiddo.
What are the benefits of plywood slats?
Our layered plywood slats are more durable and pliable than standard wood slats. We also offer an upgraded slat roll line in our accessories section if you want extra support for your super plushy mattress.
Do I need slats, box spring or a bunkie board?
All our beds include a slat roll which is designed to provide support to your mattress while also allowing your mattress to breathe. No need to purchase an additional box spring or bunkie board.
How tall are the guardrails?
Our guardrails are 14 inches tall. We recommend using a low-profile mattress (5 inches) to get the most out of your guardrails. If your kiddo likes to roll around, we’ve got you covered!
Take a look at our fit and measurement guide for more information on mattress best fit.
What are other Max & Lily® safety features?
Check out some of the great safety features included in our designs:
- patented hardware for strong connections
- anti-slip steps
- metal underbed support bar for added support
Is there an age requirement for loft bed or bunk beds?

Can the bunk beds be separated?
Yes! Our Triple Bunk Bed, Twin over Twin Bunk Bed, Full over Full Bunk Bed, and Twin over Full Bunk Bed with ladders can be separated into individual beds.
Can the low bunks separate, too?
