"This was my first purchase from max and lily, but hopefully it won't be my last. I'm an old guy in Florida, and my son and grandson often stay with us. We turned one bedroom into a room especially for them, and searched for a good bunk bed setup. We were interested in this driftwood grey, twin over queen size bunk bed. The reviews were good and it appeared to be good quality so we bought it. It's safe to say that it's exceeded our expectations. It's heavy to move upon receiving, comes in 2 boxes. Having read other reviews we separated the nuts and bolts by number into little cups to make things easier. By all means do this. It only takes a few minutes at the beginning of the setup, and it'll save you lots of time and stress. At my age getting up and down while trying to find specific parts is tough. My son assisted me and it took a good afternoon to assemble this bed. All the parts matched, everything lined up perfectly, and the final product is really beautiful. It's a substantial piece of bedroom furniture and it looks like it'll last forever. The color is beautiful and our grandson loves it. He's almost 5 now, and we're not letting him sleep up top just yet. Maybe in a few months, as children need to show patience and maturity when climbing up and down from the top bunk. Our little guy is still a bit rambunctious so we're erring on the side of caution. But I believe this bed will be here for his entire childhood right up until college age, maybe forever for that matter. The queen bed below is strong and there's plenty of room to get into it. Our cat loves to jump on the top bunk and spy on everyone from above. So all in all I'm delighted by the purchase of this bed and I give it a 5 star rating. I'm not very handy or in great shape but I was able to assemble this without much difficulty. If I can do it you can do it. At some point we'll probably add a desk and a dresser, and this company makes the exact match for those things. So again, very satisfied and very happy we bought this bed. "The bed looks great and was easy to put together. The queen fits nicely under the bunk bed with enough room to get in on both sides. The bunk bed has a metal bar that runs under the slats (which are screwed in), giving extra support. The instructions might be a little confusing if you need the ladder on the left vs. the right side, but we figured it out."

- No, our beds do not require a box spring. Our slat roll is designed to take the place of the traditional box spring. In fact, we recommend not using a box spring on our beds at all.
