Mostly happy with this bed and assembly
"I needed to add more sleeping space to a small bedroom and wanted a trundle bed made of real wood. I chose this bed after reading all the reviews. As expected, the pecan color is a bit darker than the online picture, and I did need 1.5" risers for the trundle to fit completely under the bed, since the room is carpeted. The bed and trundle were very well packaged, and nothing was damaged in transit. The assembly instructions were very clear. I was able to assemble the bed by myself in 90 min. and the trundle in 45 min. I did need to get out the cordless screwdriver because most of the holes for the wood screws were not predrilled, and my hand was getting sore. I have just a few complaints / suggestions for improvement: 1) The pecan finish is painted on rather than a stain, so it is easy to chip. I scratched it with the Allen wrench during assembly, and I also scratched a leg the first time I slid the trundle under. (it must be perfectly aligned to fit!) 2) The pre-marked holes in the head and foot boards for the metal support beam bracket did not line up with the holes in the hardware, and the placement of the footboard bracket was about 3/8" too low, so there is a gap between the cross slats and the beam. Since less weight will be on that end of the bed, I didn't find it worth my time to move the bracket up. 3) One of the footboard legs is about 1/8" off the mark when installed. You can kind of see it in the picture. I tried putting that leg on both the left and right sides and turned the top railing both inside and out and no matter what, there was always this tiny bit of overhang with the top rail. (I left the top rail with the larger lip side turned in rather out on purpose, otherwise I couldn't get the bedroom door to close). It wasn't worth the hassle for me to call support to ask for a new leg piece, as I just wanted to get this done. 4) Opinion: I think the instructions should have had the metal support beam brackets installed while the headboard and footboards were still flat on the floor. I found it more difficult to screw the brackets on with these pieces in the upright position. 5) For the sake of people without a cordless screwdriver, all the woodscrew holes should be predrilled, at least halfway."
